MÖTLEY CRÜE's TOMMY LEE: 'We Like To Go Fast Around Here'
May 30, 2006GQ.com recently conducted an interview with MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee. A couple of exceprts from the chat follow:
GQ.com: We were wondering if it's tougher now to do the touring and recording and all your other side projects, since, you know, you're not 22 anymore.
Tommy: "I don't know, man, I'm so the fucking Energizer Bunny. I just keep going and going and going. I actually amaze myself sometimes, and people are like, 'How the fuck do you do this every day?' I dig it. Like on days off on the tour, I'll book DJ gigs and go rock the dance floor and spin records. We like to go fast around here."
GQ.com: Isn't Bruce Sinofsky, one of the guys who did the METALLICA documentary, working on a film about you?
Tommy: "Yeah, he's going to start filming in the next month or so. He's going to follow me around and document some craziness. Because it's definitely fucking crazy right now."
GQ.com: The METALLICA movie was pretty revealing. Does that make you nervous?
Tommy: "Not really. I'm a pretty open cat. I wear my emotions on my sleeve. It's all good."
GQ.com: People will get to see you with your two sons, too.
Tommy: "I take off the Tommy Lee hat and put on the dad one on and am a total different person — although just as goofy. Even more goofy. I remember a couple years ago, I was digging through the mud with my two boys, looking at rocks and worms, and I was like, 'This fucking rules!' Like, when is the last time you dug through the dirt with mud and rocks? Isn't that cool?"
GQ.com: How do you stay in touch with them when you're on tour?
Tommy: "We got 'em laptops for Christmas. They got their e-mail up and running, so I turn on my BlackBerry and there's an e-mail from my son saying, 'Hey, daddy, I love you. Look, I got e-mail!' And I'm just like, Oh, that's so cute!"
